DH awards Medical and Surgical ‘Category Towers’ to NHS-owned Collaborative Procurement Partnership LLP

8th November 2017

The Department of Health has awarded a three-year contract to run three of the Medical Category Towers in the new ‘Future Operating Model’ for NHS procurement to Collaborative Procurement Partnership LLP.

We are delighted to announce that the Department of Health has awarded the Collaborative Procurement Partnership three Medical Category Towers in the Future Operating Model for NHS Procurement.

The Collaborative Procurement Partnership (CPP LLP) is the organisation formed by the four regional NHS procurement hubs; NHS Commercial Solutions (NHS CS), East of England NHS Collaborative Procurement Hub (EOE CPH), NHS North of England Commercial Procurement Collaborative (NOE CPC) and NHS London Procurement Partnership (LPP) and their host trusts to manage the Category Towers.

The three towers that the CPP have been awarded are:

  • Tower 2 Sterile Intervention Equipment and Associated Consumables;
  • Tower 4 Orthopaedics, Trauma and Spine, and Ophthalmology; and
  • Tower 5 Rehabilitation, Disabled Services, Women’s Health and Associated Consumables.

These contract awards were based on assessment of the quality of response from bidders against set criteria, competitive pricing and credibility of our savings projections. To be awarded the maximum three Category Towers is reflective of the calibre of the CPP bids and the standard of service we will deliver.

The CPP is in a particularly strong position to understand Trusts’ procurement needs, with 40 years of collective experience, expertise, collaboration and market influence utilised to the best effect for the wider NHS. We are looking forward to being a part of the future of NHS procurement and delivering these Category Towers.

The Medical Category Towers are due to be fully operational by May 2018.

During the implementation phase and beyond, all four hubs will continue to provide procurement support and expertise to our valued members and continue with business as usual with suppliers that fall outside the scope of the Medical Category Towers. Please see the FOM handbook located here for further information.

As this is a continuing development, we will have more details and information available when we officially launch at the Health Care Supply Association (HCSA) Conference on 29th November.
