Pathology Procurement Partnership In Action

15 April 2016

A new contract, worth £18 million, will provide East Sussex healthcare NHS trust with some of the most advanced Pathology diagnostic equipment available on the market.

Frances O’Grady, Project manager from NHS Commercial Solutions has been responsible for the procurement of a new £18 million Pathology contract. The tender for this contract involved collaborative work between the expertise of NHS Commercial Solutions, East Sussex Healthcare NHS trust and provider Roche Diagnostics Ltd.

With an estimated 70 to 80% of all healthcare diagnoses and decisions being directly influenced by pathology test results, this agreement will have a significant positive impact on pathology reporting which will help to ensure the provision of a better service to patients in the East Sussex area.

Richard Sunley, Acting Chief Executive at East Sussex said “I am delighted to be signing the contract for this exciting partnership with Roche Diagnostics. The clinical services we provide rely on our pathology department for a fast and effective service for the rapid and reliable diagnosis of patients in our hospitals and within the local community. Our current laboratory service is hampered by very old equipment, most of which needs replacing. This new contract means we will update our laboratories with the latest state-of-the-art equipment which will also have a positive impact on the working environment of our staff.”

This is a significant success for patients and staff, continuing the drive of NHS Commercial Solutions to work with our partners to improve health outcomes in the South East.
