HCSA Chairman's Message - January 2015

29th January 2015

Dear Member

I hope you all have settled back into the routine and just in case I forgot to say - happy 2015! The HCSA Council is meeting on Wednesday 21st January and the preceding evening the HCSA Executive is meeting with our President - Lord Hunt at the House of Lords. Lord Hunt continues to give his time generously to HCSA matters. The Council has a really packed agenda including how we drive forward our partnership with the Department of Health (DH) to support the development of the profession. Our DH colleagues strongly share our ambitions and I know are keen to invest in supporting the skills of our 'front line' Trust-based Procurement Teams.

HCSA members will be aware of the recent Prior Information Notice (PIN) issued by the DH for Supply Chain and related services. The next few years will involve a great deal of activity and for our NHS Supply Chain (NHSSC) colleagues, some uncertainty. I would like to acknowledge once again the importance and value of the contribution our NHSSC Members make which I know will continue as the future service is developed.

Local Procurement Teams are busy supporting savings and service pressures across the UK.

It is often forgotten how important an effective procurement service is to the delivery of healthcare - I know HCSA Members are all too aware of this.

Our intermediary organisations provide important service offerings to Trusts and are a critical part of the NHS Procurement family - I really am pleased that these past 2 years I have been able to strengthen our links with NHS Commercial Solutions, Shared Business Services, Health Trust Europe, London Procurement Partnership, North of England Commercial Procurement Collaborative and the East of England Hub.

Finally, please accept my thanks as Chairman for all the work you do in support of the NHS.

Simon Walsh MCIPS
