NHS Commercial Solutions are happy to announce the next in the series of Legal webinars focusing on Data Protection at 11am Tuesday, 26th March 2024. 

This session is focussed on supporting all colleagues with access to personal data and will be delivered by Heike Stephenson and Louise Weatherhead from Sintons LLP.

Heike Stephenson - Senior Associate

Heike is a senior associate in the Commercial department at Sintons, where she specialises in public sector and procurement work. Heike studied law and completed her traineeship in North Rhine Westphalia before moving to Edinburgh and qualifying as a Scottish solicitor and notary public. She spent over ten years working as a solicitor for commercial and business services in the Scottish Government Legal Directorate and the in-house corporate team of the Scottish Parliament. Heike is also qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales.

Experience:

  • Heike was a Scottish Parliament lead legal adviser on data protection including implementation of GDPR requirements for all parliamentary and business in 2018
  • Heike’s experience includes advising on and drafting contracts for goods and services, framework agreements and complex construction and infrastructure maintenance contracts including standard forms such as NEC contracts
  • She also advises on all stages of procurement processes including selection of procedure, document drafting, evaluation process, risks and challenges:

Louise Weatherhead - Associate

Louise is an Associate in the Corporate and Commercial department. She guides commercial clients in the technology, construction, retail, leisure and professional services sectors through their regulatory compliance obligations. Louise also works closely with NHS Trusts and other healthcare sector organisations in relation to their information governance arrangements. Louise acts as trusted advisor to a number of faith-based institutions such as the Anglican Church and Methodist Church where she guides clients on a range of data protection issues. She has experience advising both private and public sector clients on a range of Data Protection and commercial matters. She advises on GDPR/Data Protection Act 2018 compliance and on data breach protocol with what is often highly sensitive and confidential information

Experience:

  • Advising NHS Trusts in relation to their data sharing arrangements, IG compliance and data security measures;
  • Guiding clients through breach notification protocols and advising on whether ICO reporting threshold has been met;
  • Acting for commercial clients in relation to data controller/data processor relationships and drafting/negotiating data processing and data sharing agreements;
  • Supporting corporate teams in relation to data transfer and risk exposure on sale/purchase transactions;
  • Providing training to contract and project managers on data protection legislation and raising data consciousness of staff;
  • Drafting data protection policies and privacy notices and advising in relation to the governance aspects of handling and processing personal data;
